Een paar hiervan zijn bekende misquotes. Dit is waar ze werkelijk vandaan komen, volgens Claude Opus 4.8.

¹ Nobody can trace this one to Kalam. It reads like a spin on "Excellence is never an accident," which people love to pin on Aristotle. He never said that either. Will Durant wrote it, back in 1926. Bron

² Ruskin gets the credit, but it is nowhere in his work. A longer version turns up in a 1939 advert. The real author is anyone's guess. Bron

³ Edison never wrote this down. It first shows up in a 1957 advert, 26 years after he died. Sounds like him, though. Bron

⁴ Ford almost certainly never said this. It is not in his writing, and the Henry Ford Museum keeps a list of about 200 quotes they can actually verify. This is not on it. The line only gets tied to him in 2001. I keep it here because the idea is too good to lose, even if the name on it is wrong. Bron

⁵ This is the cleaned-up version. Gall said it first, in 1975: "A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked." Kevin Kelly said it again in 1994. Bron

⁶ Levitt made this famous, but he never claimed it. He pointed to an adman named Leo McGivena, and the line was already in print by 1942. Plenty of people hand it to Clayton Christensen. They should not. Bron
